I live near Toronto, a sprawling region of about 6 million and healthy Triumph dealerships.
I had a hard time finding a D600, and months in, I can safely say I have yet to see another at track days, VRRA, Mosport superbike, etc.
All the sport bike hangouts.
Does anyone know a resource that lists how many of any Triumph models were built and sold in various countries?
I know the D600/650 did not sell well, but I'm curious to know its unicorness or unicornicity if you will.
I haven't seen a D6 or D650 in the wild for years around here. There was a beautiful one with minimal miles on it at the local dealership recently, but that's the last time I saw one. Before that, it was probably 7 or 8 years ago at the track. They are unicorns, for sure.
I've seen at least 6 on Cragslist in the past couple of years. Since moving down to Portland Oregon I have seen 2 "In the Wild" as Will calls it. They are out there, just usually not at dealerships. Quite a few garage queens out there with minimal miles in pristine condition waiting to be scooped up!
I just bought one in Perth. Before I bought it a local wrecker called it the rarest bike in the world. I have seen a few for sale on Gumtree.com.au. but I too am curious as to how many where made and how many are left. It's a bit strange what things are reasonably easy to get a what are not
Gonna revive this zombie thread.Right around 5k produced, worldwide. That's including the D650.There's some crazy low #s in some countries, like one in Singapore or Thai or something.I have the production numbers from triumph. What colors/years/quantities went to what country. Can post if anyone wants.
It's funny, because there's at least one other yellow D600 here in Canberra, which is a pretty small city. I think there's another that's setup as a track bike too.
The other yellow D600 owner is in my riding group, so I'll take some comparison photos next meet, haha.
Great thanks. So seriously, only 24 red D600s in Canada?
I've seen two wrecked, so they get rarer every year.
24 is actually rare. This explains why I have yet to see another one in the wild. Also explains why Triumph dropped the 600s so quickly.
I wonder if these sales number had anything to do with the R6 controversy back then. Yamaha made some horsepower claims that people were not seeing in the real world, they claimed it was brake hp versus rear-wheel hp differential, but in 2006, Yamaha was flat caught putting tachometers on bikes that indicated a redline of 17500, while the ECU cut out at 15800 -tuners spotted this. So Yamaha offered to refund any R6 owner, but we can only wonder how these fake numbers influenced sales away from the D600. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_YZF-R6#2006_tachometer_problem
I'm amused that California and USA are reported as different countries. Emissions laws, sure, but California spec bikes ended up all over the place. My 675 is a California spec bike. Well, not any more, but it was when it was new.
WOW! I knew they weren't that popular but I didn't know there were so few. The only thing that I would be curious about is how many of those in each country had the union jack/British Flag decal on the front from the factory. I don't know how much of a difference that would make but would just be interesting to see. Especially since the majority of the pictures of ones in the US that I have seen don't have it.
Hi Day6
Where did you get the info.
It would be cool to see a more detailed breakdown.
How many sold and what state.
I have heard of one other in Western Australia but one of the Triumph dealers in Perth (out of 2) has only 9 (including D650) on there service history (which doesn't go all the way back to 2004).
I got it from a member on the dead & gone Daytona600.org forum. He got it from triumph upon request, but he was a brit.Dont know if that made it possible or easier.Maybe triumph has more detailed records....never know.
Yeah Ok
I have been thinking of writing a snail mail letter to England (thought it might get a better response) to see what stories are available on the development production distribution etc. on the bike. I reckon it would make an interested read. well at least for the half a dozen currently interested owners and any new to the bike.
Actually that could make an interesting thread. ie. "D600 history as we know it."
Hi, I'm new to the group and would definitely love to see the list if you still have it. I just picked up a 2004 D600 that needs saving.
thanks!
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
