2002 TT600....
Key will start the bike fine, but the key won't turn to the Left to lock the handlebars or turn on the parking lights. I am still using the factory key also, not a duplicate.

Any suggestions?? :???:

Are you pushing the key in, releaseing then turning?

I don't remember if the bars have to be turned clear to the left before it works or not. Try turning the bars all the way, pushing in the key as Reppyboyo suggests and see what happens.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

I know that the handlebars have to be turned to the left & the key has to be pushed in. That one is a no-brainer.
I was just wondering if anyone had any similar problems or troubleshooting ideas as to what causes this problem. Possible replace the ignition switch??

You would be surprised by how many dumb thing I have done that would be no-brainers to a normal person!

By your description, there may be some kind of hindrance or corrosion inside the switch- try some solvent based lock graphite before replacing the switch.

I had trouble at first too. It wouldn't do it all the way to the left but I tried the following until I found the "sweet spot" consistently. Now it turns without a problem.

1. Start with steering at or just left of 12:00.
2. Push key in and start turning - it won't but keep the pressure on.
3. Slowly turn steering left.

Once it hits the slot on the frame where the locking bolt goes in, it will turn.

Tried that also. My Daytona is a little tricky at times, but this TT600 will not go into locked position no matter what I do.
