I just moved from the flat and openness of Ohio to the hills and stop signs of San Francisco. I've always experienced something of the low rpm surge, but learned to compensate.

Now that I'm riding in an urban setting with traffic, congestion, starting on a 5% grade hill, etc, I'm finding myself in 1st and 2nd a lot, and the surge is a huge problem. I've misjudged it several times and been in a tough situation, either lurching forward or bucking toward a stall.

Options seem to be TuneBoy or Dealer remap. I don't anticipate tweaking the settings (my automotive technical knowledge being what it is), but neither local dealer seems to be able to remap the ecu. The Tuneboy is a substantial investment for me right now, even with the group-buy.

Advice? Is the Tuneboy easy to use, or can I borrow an optimize map based on the California map? What exactly to ask the dealer to do for me?

Much appreciated.

You can plug in and load all kinds of maps if you have a TuneBoy setup. A dealer will look at you funny, to say the least, if you start asking them to load all kinds of maps for other bikes. I have heard of people having success with the 2001 TT600 TOR map, the California map, and various maps others have made as aftermarket maps. With TuneEdit, you just load 'em up. If you don't like what it does, you load up another one. It is very simple to use once you get the hang of it, and it is easy enough to fix a problem if you make a mistake.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.
