the strangest thing. i am riding my S4 then all of a sudden the speedometer flashes to 188 and the rest of the meters stop reading anything. and every time i rev the numbers all disappear. this somehow causes the battery to loose all of its juice and then i can't start the bike if i turn it off. as u can imagine this is hyper annoying especially being in southern California. any ideas at all before i take it in and spend a buttload of money trying to figure it out.
-its a new battery too

It looks like your are going to have to spend that buttload of money. The bike might just need a reflash of the ecu, or who knows. My bike is also at the shop with electrical problems.

it does that when the battery is low/dying

if a new battery fixes it for a short while, then you have stator/regulator problems.

if not, you have wiring/ECU problems.

The first thing to do is have the battery tested. You can do this at most auto parts stores for free. If the battery is shot, buy a new one. That behavior could be a dead battery (it'll pull all the current the alternator produces so not enough gets to the gauges). It could be a bad alternator, or, as Fury said, it could be wiring/ecu/bad things.

It's much more likely that it's a charging system problem than a wiring/ecu issue, fwiw.

Stators eventually get tired and have to be replaced. If the stator is tired, you don't get enough juice to keep the battery charged, and as the battery drains, the problem will come back.
