Firstly I'd like to say hello. I just recently bought my 2nd TT600 and though I just became a member I've used this site to find information many times.

I did a search on this topic but didn't come up with a lot. My bike has been discharging its battery over a few days and I replaced the battery thinking that was the problem (previous owner never rode it). That didn't do anything though.

I removed the left fairing and tested the 3 wires coming out of the alternator cover with a voltmeter (had my black needle on the battery - and pressed the red needle to each of the wires). The best of the 3 wires showed about 2.5 volts with the bike running.

Now I'm in search of a new stator (instead of paying the stealer). On this site I found info saying these older TT's have very low amp alternators. My question is will a 03 Speed Four stator work on my 01 TT600? And is it an upgrade (something like 27 amps vs 33). Also does the test I performed on the stator sound correct? I tested the battery and it's fine.

Lastly. is it necessary to replace the rotor and stator, or does the rotor usually not give any problems? And is there a way to test the rectifier/could that be the problem? Sorry for the long first post!

Oh and here's the bike (I've since eliminated the rear fender):

The S4 stator will fit. I actually have a TT600 stator in my S4 because a new stator from the dealer was about 400.

does anyone know if the 03 S4 stator is an upgrade? I can get it for pretty cheap but its used. For just a bit more money I can get this new one:

Comments on the quality of this vs. a used one?

edit:
Gundog mentioned in a thread:
"My owners manual covers both the TT and S4.
TT Alt is rated at 12V 25A.
The S4 rating is 12V 33.5A.

I'm guessing it should drop right in."

Ill go with the used S4 unit :-D

Looks like the bike I was thinking about buying! Did you find that on CL? We'll have to hook up for a ride sometime.

yes it was! I thought it was an excellent deal, at the price I paid the only other sport bikes available were early 90's japanese 600s.. Nice going back to the triumph (and having modern technologies like efi)

id love to meet up for a ride sometime, theres a lot of awesome highways in WI for riding!

I Had an accident with my bike and I had to change the rotor and the stator.
I places the rotor from a D600(used part) and the stator of a TT600 (bought from electrexworld). I rode my bike for about 3 months without a problem but a week ago my battery is discharged every I use the Bike with the lights on. I think that i have to replace the stator with one with much power.
Do I have to replace also the rotor?
or any idea for what to do?

Your battery may have got to the end of its life. I never had a problem with the battery even running a TT600 with high beams and heated gear.
