I took my bike out for a test run up and down the street. Somehow my cloth keychain lanyard in my pocket ended up in rear wheel bearing....

I've been nothing but bad news for this bike. How can I get what's left of the lanyard out? I have a feeling I'm going to have to take this one to the shop.

I noticed that your post has gone unanswered for some time--sorry about that. Incase you have yet to fix the problem, I believe that you are probably getting the wheel bearings confused with something else. The wheel bearings are sealed roller ball bearings which make it very hard to get anything stuck in them--especially a cloth strap. I'm thinking that the cloth might have been sucked into/under the grease seal, but I obviously don't have your bike in front of me so I am only speculating. In any case, you will have to drop the wheel from the swingarm if you are unable to get all the material out as it is. Once you remove the axle, let the wheel drop and you should be able to reach in and get all the material out. If you had to, you could carefully remove the grease seal and then you'd have full access to the bearing.

I got it off. I just had to pull real hard and roll the bike backwards. Repeat Repeat and it came out.

The lanyard was in my pocket and it got caught in the chain and tore off. It wound itself on the axle... or whatever. The good news is I didn't have to take it to a shop.

A friend of mine had a similar issue, he took off on his Ducati with the tie-down chain still attached. It got tangled in his wheel as well. He's the one who suggested pulling/rolling back.

Ahh, that is good news. This is the very reason I wear my boots, no laces .
