Hey, folks,

I just changed the coolant in my S4. I know that it's supposed to take 2.64 US quarts/2.5 liters. It seemed like it only took just over 2 quarts.

I followed the instructions in the manual. Pulled the coolant drain plug, loosened the bleeder screw and pulled the hose by the water pump (actually had to pull the hose by the bleed screw, too). I put everything back together, filled the radiator, opened and closed the bleeder screw and then ran the bike for a bit so it would suck down some coolant (I burped the hoses while it was running). Then I filled it again. I also filled the overflow tank.

Anyway, it didn't seem to take as much coolant as it should have.

(I will note that the old coolant that I drained all fit in a 2 liter Coke bottle, which also seemed strange).

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

p.s.-I hadn't had any overheating problems with the old coolant. It was just time to change it out.

You may have an air bubble in the system. Clamp off the hose from the overflow tank, then pop the radiator cap and run the engine briefly and see if you can add more water.

There is still coolant in the engine, its very very hard to drain every last bit, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, folks. Well, I finally got the bike out for a ride. Temps were at the usual levels for an 80 degree day. Coolant level looked fine when I got back (I guess that the bike just didn't want to give up that last .5 liter when I drained it).

When I changed out the coolant, I added some Water Wetter for good measure. It didn't lower my high temps (it's still in the 220's F at lights), but the bike seemed to cool off a bit faster once I got moving.
