I was planning to change my coolant (2003 Speed Four) and replace with Wetter Water. The owners manual says not to change coolant, that a "permanent type of antifreeze is added to the bike when it leaves the factory. Therefore, there are no directions to draining old coolant. Can anyone provide me with directions? Anyone try water wetter?

i just disconnected the hoses and let it drain out while on the rearstand. the is also a bleed valve somewhere around the water pump....

good luck haha i use water wetter and water, runs cooler and is track legal, id maybe use a lil coolant to be anti-corrosive for you cooling system

Here's how I've done it:

1.) Take off the seat, take the cap off the overflow bottle.
2.) Take the lower radiator hose off (a big mess will ensue).
3.) Open the bleed valve to drain the last bit (follow the lower radiator hose to the engine to find it - it's part number 33 here - on the left side of the engine)
4.) Flush the system with water - reconnect the bottom radiator hose, fill the radiator with water, start the bike and let it idle for a minute then repeat 1-3. Do this until you don't see coolant coming out anymore.

To fill with water/water wetter:
1.) Put everything back together (coolant bottle cap still off)
2.) Fill the radiator from the radiator cap - water only for now.
3.) Open the bleed screw until water comes out. Close it.
4.) Fill again with water. Squeeze all the coolant hoses to get air out of them (the top one is the most important - often called 'burping' it)
5.) Top off (this would be a good time to add the water wetter)
6.) Start the engine for 30 seconds, top off. Lean the bike to the right if it's not on a stand, top off. Burp the top hose again, top off. Repeat this process until the radiator stays full.
7.) Top off the overflow bottle
8.) Put the radiator cap back on, coolant bottle cap back on, start the bike and let it idle until the fans kick in, and verify that it cools down when they do. Keep an eye on the bike in case something went wrong.

That should do it . After you've done it once or twice, it'll take less thought than typing this up did.

No worries - I tend to be long-winded (as I'm sure anyone on the forum can tell you  ). Might as well put it to good use!

Hi I'm about to change the coolant... and was unsure of what to do but this really helps!

One question, which one is the lower radiator hose? Here is a pic.... What in the service manual is called bleeding bolt is behing a hose...So I guess its better to disconect the hose u said.. but im not sure which one is it.

Something other than drinking it! If there is a household hazardous waste collection station around where you live, that is a start. You don't want to just dump it.

Or you could do what I do - drain all old coolant, oil, brake fluid, carb cleaner, whatever into windshield washer fluid bottles. Never get around to taking them to the hazmat disposal folks.
