Curious if anybody's raced their S4 (not trackdays, racing to win). I want to get into WERA and CCS racing but track bikes and the transportation is expensive. Any way to get bodywork (like TT600 race plastics) onto it?
I would not race the speed 4, mainly because the cost of parts for when not if but when you wreck is very very high. Also you wuld be better starting out with a light weight twin like a sv 650 or a ninja 650, lots of parts and they are cheap. Also the grids in those classes are alot smaller so you will have a better time racing and a chance of getting points.
My personal thoughts, I am fairly certain that the speed 4 has better suspention conponants than any of the other 2. I would think it would have slightly more power.
For better or worse, a TT600 or S4 gets to compete with the likes of brand new Gixxers, R6s, 675s, ZX6Rs and CBR600s. It will embarass a less skilled rider during a trackday, but all things being equal, the newer designs are worth at least a couple seconds a lap.
Funds are kind of tight so I'm not sure if I have options aside from either trading/selling the S4. If I were to race the S4, I'd need a bellypan right? Any idea where I could get one that doesn't cost a fortune?
You lay it down once, the cost of fixing it will pretty much be the same as trading it in, for something else or just outright buying another bike.
I have no idea what your experience level is, but go to a few track days and see how it and yourself do.
also check out wera.com they have a good forum there for racing and stuff.
If you have any questions as far as racing and trackdays, Will or myself can probably answer most of them.
