Sorry, I know... I know... not again. :hammer: By searching I just found answers on brands, car versus motorcycle, or synthetic or not.

Don't worry, I'm not here to debate any of the above! My question is it's recommended that 15w50 oil is used, but I've seen guys list that they use 10w40 and 10w50. Why so and what should I be filling the TT with do you think?!? (I know i'll get a broad range of answers probably, but some advice is nice... I'm new to motorcycles)

I'm asking because the guy that is helping me fix my bike, has Amsoil synthetic 10w40 at his house already i believe, but nothing else, so i'll have to bring some otherwise before I bring the parts over.

Thanks!

Big thanks to gearslammer, rustbucket, furyfour, and gncc600! All GREAT guys to work with and buy parts from here. I dealt with multiple people on here trying to get my bike back on the road, some not so great and then these guys who were fantastic! Appreciate it guys!

My personal philosophy is provided that the range is as wide wider than the factory recommended range you are good to go. If you normally ride in very cold weather (like MN in the late fall through early spring) you can get by just fine with the 40wt as the upper limit. In the heat of a MN summer I would want 50wt if it was my bike. I just run 15/50 Mobil One & Pure One PL14610 filters & never worry if it's the optimal combo. The bottom line is that just about any reasonably constructed, properly fitting filter & decent quality oil of the proper viscosity range is going to be just fine, no matter how much the issue gets debated about this oil vs. that one.
