Hey, I was considering getting a Supertrapp pipe and was wondering if there is anyone else out there with a custom exhaust setup on their S4 ...other than Fury of course.

I'm an engineering student and spend about half my day in a machine shop, so it wouldn't be much for me to cut, bend, and weld some tube. One idea that I like is making a MotoGP style exhaust, very short exhaust length exiting a little behind the driver's foot. Under-seat exhaust seems like logistical hell. And I'd rather not go the high pipe route because my girlfriend wouldn't like burning her legs.

Also just to check, I'm assuming removing the headers requires flushing and removing the radiator.

Hey Jon.

It is possible to remove the headers without draining the radiator. Free the radiator from its mounting points enough to just push it forward away from the headers, and you will have just enough room to get those headers off.

The drawback to doing it this way is that some of those header nuts can be a serious pain to get back on when you do it this way. If I knew I was going to be removing and replacing the headers more than once, I would just get the radiator out of my way and make the rest of the job a lot more enjoyable.

But it is possible. Good luck and let us know what exhaust ideas you come up with.

I had kinda the same idea for my track bike. I was over on there web page and the universal pipes look good for this. and the dirt bike pipes kinda have the moto gp look and could be made to work. best part is there tunable.

I was thinking about doing something similar using a short supertrapp can, but I decided I wasn't ready to cut the headers for it. I was worried about how it would affect the performance and sound of the bike - the sportbikes with shorty exhausts usually have a really big resonator chamber under the engine. I didn't know if having a shorter exhaust would perform better... I know it would look badass, but I don't want a bike that's too loud... For now, at least :-D

I fired up the TT600 without a can on it when I was swapping cans, just to see what it would be like. The clouds shook!

Thanks for the info on the headers Bad.

I think I'm going to get the Supertrapp and rig one up similar to Fury's. Cutting the headers doesn't really worry me as there are plenty of slip-on style pipes. Luckily Supertrapp sells various pipe ends so that if you want to cut the noise down, you can. I like my neighbors.

Also this is kind of a side note, but has anyone tried headerwrap on their S4? I've heard of that the high heat can cause your pipes to form cracks quicker. The holding in moisture thing doesn't really bother me because if it is raining, the pipes will still be exposed to it. Plus I believe they are stainless, so they they will rust much slower. Then I can replace them with Aluminum. .
