Hi,

The engine malfunction light on my S4 remains on, no idea why however.
The S4 has sadly been garaged as Ive been waiting for my full test and I`ve been leaving it to idle about once a week to keep everthing flowing.

However, I noticed today that the engine malfunction light remains on after starting, and does not go off.
I havent tried giving it a quick ride up the street to see if it changes.

Any thoughts on what this could be?
Or could it possibly be just a side effect of not being ridden for some time?

Thanks all.

Did your battery go flat? That can cause it to go on. If it doesn't go away after three heat cycles, it is telling you about a problem you need to get checked.

Three heat cycles means full operating temperature I imagine. So just starting the bike and letting it idle for a while won't be a heat cycle. Right? I think I remember Joe Dirt on speedfour.org saying that.. Wonder what temp needs to b passed for "full operating temp"...

My battery didnt go compleatly flat, but near enough.

I`ll attempt the heat cycles tomorrow.

From what Ive read, a heat cycle is getting the bike up to operating temp (approx 72C up), then letting the engine cool fully.

I had that problem with my tt600 with the engine light. it turns out it was the oil pressure switch that is behind the right side fairing near the bottom, it was all frayed and shorted out.

If this thing is bad, does the oil pressure light still come on during the pre-start sequence?

My engine light is on, but it seems to run fine (it's not the battery & I cycled it already). The oil pressure switch is covered with crap and the bike was down on that side a few months ago (but my S4 does have the metal guard) so it could be bad, at least I hope that's what it is....
