I agree on the Triumph break-in procedure. I have now 2000 miles and can sure feel the difference. Seems to have loosed up allot.. Will let everyone know in a couple days what the Dyno has to say about HP. But the seat of pants feeling tells me about the same HP as my old 2002 Honda F4i .But the handling is twice as good. Thats one of the biggest reason's I bought the Daytona. HANDLING. Anyone noticed a surging at around 4000 RPM. Seems to be intermitant. But no big deal.. Just wick it up to 5000RPM. To answer triumph 900. I don't really know of any 600s that has any balls below 4000 RPMS. with a red line of 14000 +. I think around 6000 is when everything starts to happen on 600's.

A 600 below 4K rpm falls on its nose anyway. I got my TT600 with 2400 miles on it already, so I can't say what happens when it breaks in. It did change again at 9300 miles. It suddenly had a lot more power and shifted smoother. It still gets the same range out of a tank, so I guess that it took that long to polish everything and get completely bedded in.

I never really felt my TT lacked power but after 9000 revs she took on a completely different view of the world.
as for the new daytona feeling down on power compared to the R6, its probably because it is and by a fairly hefty amount (10-15bhp if memory serves me correctly).
no 600 is ever going to feel strong at 3000-4000rpm but once run in properly when you can open them up the triumphs are as good as anything out there.
after 14000kms in 14 months mt TT didnt let me down against any opposition (I may have but thats another story).
treat it for what it is - a 600 and you will be fine.

I have a 00tt600 and aD600,the tt has 12m miles on it and many of those were track miles. The engine has run flawless and the only problem is I tend to rush the gear box(it does not like to be rushed). If I preload the shifter it works smoothly.
The D600 has 1500 miles and has gotten better as the miles add up.It is a far superior bike to the tt600.The engine is much smoother and the gearbox is much improved. It does go flat at 4000rpm,but I know Triumph is working on a new tune to correct the problem.
Eurobiketrash and I rode in the mountians this past weekend on the same roads I have riden the tt on ,and the D600 was much better than the tt on the same roads. The LIgther front end made corner entry and lean smoother. The engine is easier to modulate rpm in a corner ,and in low gear out of corner at 8000rpm the d600 will turn into a rocket.
I have noticed as the miles add up on the D600 it has loosened up and improved in performance. :-D
