Well, I've survived the first time down decently. I went down about 5 weeks ago now, thanks to some wonderful women and her complete lack of knowledge how to handle a car. Luckily, I was in full gear except pants, which were just a pair of jeans... which do nothing to save your legs haha. Everything except my left hand has healed completely almost. My left hand took a beating, along with my gear and my bike.
On to the bike. I'm very new to bikes, so try and deal with my explination please. I bought mine about a year ago and put almost 6,000 miles on it this summer - love it! My scratch free 00 TT, now has a not so pretty left side. The parts I know that are gone: Left mirror, clutch lever, 3 of the turn signals, the left rear set - the two holes that hold the left footpeg sheared in half - i still have the peg, a whole was ground in the - would it be the left engine case? sorry, technically i'm out of the loop on bikes, and does not hold any oil at the moment, and the - once again, techinically out of the know - upper subframing? along the windshield has been pushed in on the left side. This is what I can visually see. The clip-ons appear to be straight and pushes straight, so i'm hoping I didn't damage the forks at all.
The questions.
1. I'm confident in my abilities to wrench, but since i'm new to bikes - I fear i may miss something technical, such as - are the forks really ok. I would rather fix it myself, but should I bring it in and pay through the teeth to have it fixed?
2. How much are these parts going to cost me?!? I'm a poor, tight budget college student haha, I have next to nothing in spare cash. I'm going to have to deal with the ugly, rashed up left side for a while. Any used parts out there? Any advice?
3. Can I just bend the framing along the windscreen back up? It looks like it was pushed in at the top, by the mirror and just bent in slightly - approx. 1 inch - near the bottom weld, or will i need to replace all of that?
I'll try and get the pictures up so you can see the actually damage and maybe help me a little more, I just have to figure out how to host and then post images.
I really appreciate the help. I love the bike and riding in general, but i'm very new to it and have very few, if any, friends who ride or can help me - so i'm putting on my hope on you peoples!
I wish I had my frame sliders on... they were ordered, just not here yet... Thank God i had my gear on! I bounced my face off the street, wore holes through my jacket, gloves, my sidi boots are scratched up, wrecked a pair of jeans, and wore through my backpack.
I appreciate everything in advance! I've got all winter to fix it, Minnesota is too harsh for me to ride in haha!
