Lateley, on the first shift cycle on a ride, the transmission will slip a bit on the shift between 5th and 6th. It is like the clutch is disengaged, even after I release the lever, and then it slips a bit, and finally drops into 6th. The engine revs high, and sounds like im a newby every time this happens. I am worried that this isnt good, but it only does it on the first attempt to shift into 6th, then it is fine after getting warm.

Have you checked your clutch lever adjustment? Does it clunk badly when you do get it into 6th?

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

Will,
No clunk, but it is like the clutch isnt engaging right away when I let the lever out. Like a slipping as if I was feathering the clutch, then it gently pops into gear, after revving like mad of course. Only on cold first shift cycles though

Maybe the clutch is sticking, but the lever fully extends when released. If it is sticking, it is inside the case.

If you have the cable adjusted too tight, it will have a similar effect. Try backing off the adjustment a little and see what happens.

will give that a try, although it seems like there is plenty of slack. Seems like a "sticky" clutch. Like the plates stick then release after the lever is released.
