I have the '00 silver/red model. Love it! But curious as to when the switch happened to the Daytona and why? Is the Daytona basically the same except for minor mods? Or a differant handling machine alltogether?

Much differnt animal, the Daytona is the next step in Triumph 600cc technology. It is a night and day difference in overall power managment and handling. Sorry to say it but the TT600 was phased out, and the S4 is the only bike left with this powerplant. I would iagine that either the S4 will be updated to the new 600 motor or a spawn of the "naked" daytona will be made. Dont get me wrong I love my S4, but if given a choice the Daytona 600 is a better example and a much more efficient 600cc motor.

The first TT600 was built in 2000, and the last was built in 2003. The motor in the D6 is the same basic architecture, but much more fully developed, and with a completely different fuel injection system. The frame looks similar, but is also different. There are probably a few parts that can interchange between a TT600 and a D6, but not many.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

So if a guy was, say, out looking to upgrade and the D6 was the next logical step what years of the D6 so far to date would be THE machine to have?
My biggest problem where I am is that the nearest Triumph dealer is three hours in all directions. It's hard to stay loyal to a brand when of the three dealers only one has gotten my vote of approval. I've always loved the looks and sound of the Triumph motorcycles and I guess that's the drawback that some of us have to pay being in somewhat remote areas of bad service and attitudes. Those Yams, Kawas, and Zukes are all over.......

I collected the torque figures for the TT, S4 & D6

Looks like the D6 follows the s4 curve until 10k when the S4 tails off and the D6 keeps going.

IMHO I would wait for the next 600 (or 750cc 3cyl?)to get a step change upgrade. I think you will not notice the Daytona is a different engine most of the time!
Cheers Jon
