I've got about 100 miles on my new Triumph Speed Four, and
found out about Motoman's controversial break-in which is described here:

1. He certainly makes an interesting case, and it wouldn't surprise me if manufacturer break-ins are really just a matter of history. Can anyone vouch for this method, and what should I do if I've already run it slow for the first 100 miles?

2. What does he mean exactly when he says "Warm up engine first!" It sounds like he doesn't necessarily mean letting it idle.

3. I've never owned a sportbike. What would be considered lugging the engine in a bike with a redline at 14k?

Just remember; an awful lot of the free advice you will get on forums is worth exactly what you paid for it. There will always be somebody trying to convince you to do something really stupid, just because they did it or want to do it.

It is amazing how everyone who gets a new bike runs across Motomans run in procedure online. Several mechanics agree with him, and say that if you ride it hard, it will be a stronger engine. Just dont know if I have the cojones to do that with a bike of mine. I can say that my S4 did see 10,000 rpms before it even had 100 miles on it. Didnt make that a habit, but dang, have you ever been on the 405 doing 50?
