Well this certainly isn't scientific, or is it? Using satellites to track the speed of the S4, I strapped my GPS to the tank and headed down the road holding a steady 50 mph. The GPS averaged around 46.5 mph. Haven't tried it at 100 but if me math is right, this would make 100 really about 93.

Is my GPS accurate? I tracked my Subaru WRX at 50 and 80 and it was dead on to the 1/10 of a MPH.

Anyone else try this? And what were the results?

I have the sportvue heads-up system and while it is not a gps it measures speed from a seperately installed sensor on the rear wheel and my speedo is always 3-5 mph higher than the heads-up display pretty much all the time.

Well, then I guess it was right. I'll test it today at 70 and 80.

I remember reading an article from sport rider I think that tested all major brands and they found that they were all approx 6% over.

Well, I calculated my bike's top speed to be 236 km/h (146.64mph) with the current gearing. The limiter hits at 238 km/h (147.89mph).

But I've radarred it at 80 and 100 km/h and it's a bit off there.

I GPS'd my bike and found it to be off by 5% using a Garmin Geko 101.

Thanks pete, it is amazing to me that the S4 is so good, I keep looking at power, speed for new bike's and the S4 is still way up there for a naked 600. :-D

Just so y'all know GPS is VERY VERY accurate. I'm a surveyor and know how the systems work and you can rely on GPS to be within a few hundreths of a MPH on speed. The quicker you go and straighter you move the more accurate the readout will be.
