Bizarre occurance today on my S4 - went for a spin, on arrival found out my seat had unlocked itself and was sliding back and forth. This happened a second time on way home.
Checked everything, made sure lock was working and once again ensured everything was in place then went for a third (hard) ride and all seems well. Hoping this was just me not pressing seat in properly (or it might just have caught on something I has stored). Anyone else had this happen??

Hoping not so I can put it down to my clumsiness! :???:

Hey Ninjaboy,

My seat has never come fully unlocked while riding, but I have had it move fore and aft despite being locked (at least it was locked before and after the ride). I noticed it most when I was sliding around on the seat, for instance between acceleration and braking/cornering, as you might do when riding hard. I asked the dealer about and I got the familiar response "yeah, they do that. really nothing we can do for you". It seems to have come and gone, though. ???? who knows. hope your issue goes away nicely.

later,

Matt

my dealer told me specificly to make sure I fully locked the seat after I took it off. I didnt. while doing a stand up it comes off and slides back. I cought it with one leg while seting the wheelie down and put it back on right. probably could have ended up way worse. I remember a year or so ago one of the haydens finished a race without a seat after it first got between his subframe and something else limiting suspension travel and giving him a ride.

when i picked my bike up, i had trouble getting the lock to fully engage. It would click but then would move forwards and backwards on the move. I tried greasing the lock and pin and pressing the seat down firmly. I even resorted to sitting on the pillion seat to see if that would help it to click properly.. No joy.

I then spoke to the dealer who said the seat locks are always problematic and they would look at it when i took it for the service.

In the meantime, i took the catch off the bike and fitted a couple of washers under the catch. It now locks fully and hasn't come loose since :-D

could be worth a go... A loose seat could prove very dangerous under harsh acceleration or braking :wow:

Thanks guys. Going to keep an eye on it for a bit and keep my fingers crossed. Will keep the v.good washer idea as back up if it happens again.

I do love my Triumph, but they do come up with some infuriating design ideas. That catch is very iffy, even my partners 15yr old GPz500 has a miles more effective method of locking the seat!! Hey its all character :brk:

Oh, and I hope some nice person handed the seat into lost property in vegas............. :-D :brk:

When I shut mine I lubricate my mind with Timothy Taylors Landlord & give it a bluddy great thump.....

that works...

or if you are a precision engineer you could use the tekinal idea of markspeeds wiv the washers an all!
