just picked up an 01 tt600.. guy said he was down shifting it.. and it loss power.. he stopped and it seemed fine.. went on home.. coolent was flowing out the tail pipe white smoke.. etc..

i got it from him.. started taking it apart.. cyclinder #3 the plug was melted.. no doubt there was detonation. and im sure the head gaskit is blown.

how could detonation occur in a stock bike like this? ive only seen it happen with turbos.??

second question.. what is the best way to drop the motor?
and what size are the motor mount bolts.. i count 3 on each side... is there a special tool needed?

Beats me why you would get a meltdown like that unless he tried to run it on some kind of bizarre campstove fuel mixed with gunpowder. Dropping the motor is fairly straight forward. If I remember right, the bolts are just a fairly large star drive. The more exotic tool becomes necessary when you want to align the motor in the frame. That tool moves a threaded insert that fits in the frame.

FWIW - I saw an auction for a TT600 motor on ebay and posted a link earlier this week. That's always an option depending on how things work out... Best of luck!

Extreme lean condition in the cyclinder? Clogged injector? Leak at the exhaust header? Leak at the intake?

i think the head is fux0rd..... i found a new one for 1900$ *****... anyone know where a good used one is?

any ideas on what could have caused this... it was on cyclinder #3 counting from chain. everything else is fine..
i think id need a new piston too.. but sleeve looks good..

That used motor will probably be cheaper than a new head.

Here's the link - doesn't look like too much activity on the bidding. Maybe you can extract a gentleman's agreement from us RAT'ers not to bid it up!
