While working on my fuel tank vent tube, I found an unconnected electrical socket under the rear of the tank. It is a gray socket with a black outer sheath that covers two wires: brown with a white stripe and yellow with a red stripe (as I recall). I think it is for hooking up the shop computer for remapping the EFI. I don't have a wiring diagram. Can someone confirm?

Also, what color wire is the high beam circuit? On most Japanese bikes it is the solid yellow wire. I may hook up an accessory to the high beam circuit, so I can turn it on and off with the high beam switch.

thanks

Well spotted Wildrice I never even saw that female socket lying there before!!

on the T595Net site they have decided that the spare socket under the tank of the S3 is because it uses a Speed Four wiring Loom.

By the same logic this spare socket on ours could hint at the existence of a Triumph Speed Quinn!!! . Now that would HOWLLLLLLLLLLL even more than the speed-carrot!

The socket on mine is so dirty I don't think it has been used, in addition I can't find a male socket empty for it to fit to. After 3½ thousand Miles mine runs really sweetly all the way to 13k with no flatspots. So I reckon the socket is from some other option for that wiring loom and it is OK.

Good luck & keep your eyes peeled it is very helpful!!

Is it possible it's brown with pink and yellow with red - that's for evaporative system and if you're not in CA then it'd be unused. According to the maintenance bible it's the only one that has yellow and red.

As far as your headlight question, it's unclear - darned british wording

Headlight is listed as Blue white stripe, Blue red stripe, black, blue stripe. Following the diagram, I'd guess that the blue red stripe is the high.

Hope this helps.

Peet is absolutely right about the grey connector. The one that connects to the ecu has a black boot over it and is mounted on a plastic fin under the seat. If you didn't know what it was, you wouldn't likely notice it, since it looks plugged in if it is stowed properly.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.
