Hi Y'all,
Glad to find this forum. I just bought a 00 tt600 w/16k miles on it to ride to college (that means tight budget!).

It's VERY hard to start cold. Changed plugs, new K&N on order, all air box connections secure, good battery.

It runs very rich (confirmed by old plugs) and takes a good 5 min of cranking to start when cold.

I drained the oil this morning. It was very thin and had a strong gas odor.

I don't have a manual.

I'm thinking a stuck or leaking injector...any thoughts or suggestions.

The nearest dealer is about 150 miles away. I have an appt with them next week for recall stuff/remapping.

I'm also looking for a front fender, fairing and seat section. Color doesn't matter, I can paint.

Thanks!!!

Scott

You might have a kink in the vent hose or a messed up tip over valve. Check the hoses that come out of the bottom of the fuel tank- the rubber ones that just push onto a nipple. Make sure they are not pinched, kinked, or otherwise blocked. Also, there is an odd looking canister in one of them. It is the tip over valve and if it is not hanging vertically, it will cut off the vent. You can check to see if it is any good by shaking it back and forth. It should rattle.

If all else fails, crank it briefly, then open and shut the fuel tank. Beats me why that works, but it always did for me when the TT600 was cranky.

The rich condition could well be a clogged air filter. Sagem injected Triumphs tend to run a bit rich anyway.

open and shuting the tank releases pressure caused buy the pinched hose you already mentioned. I had a similar problem with my tt then it stoped running all together. dealer told me around 1-2 grand(thats right 1000- 2000 us dollars) to fix it. I cant afford fixing it so I go to pick it up and they dont charg me for looking at it but give it back to me in pieces and tell me that one of the fule fittings was broken so they took it off and plugged it with a bolt. I have not had a chance to fix it myself yet but I'm guessing its just the fule fitting that was my problem. they did give me a decent deal on the 675 thats currently distracting me from fixing it so I cant hate on em even if they did try to rip me off.

After reading all the posts I could find on the subject, I pulled the IAC to check for cracks. When I lifted it out, all 4 vacuum lines stayed behind! They had hardened and split at the fittings. I replaced all 4 with standard vacuum line and it seems to have cured the problem (at least made a drastic improvement!)

Caution: the elbow at the throttle body and the nipple on the IAC are different sizes! Take both pieces to the parts store to find vacuum line that will work. A little lubricant on the 90's along with brute force and ignorance worked for me until I can get my hands on factory recplacements (about $16.00 each here: iconwww.bikebandit.com (click on OEM parts, they have awesome schematics!)

Anyhow, thanks for the help!

I have a black and yellow lower right fairing from my 2000 TT if you're interested. I can email you pics if you'd like.

My lower fairings are good, it's everything else that's banged up. Thanks for the reply, though!
