My scratched engine case is driving me nuts. This happened after my stupid 1 MPH tip over. I'd like to get it repainted or even chromed.

Question: this case gets HOT after riding a bit. Regular body-shop type paint may not hold up to the temps -powder coating will, will chrome if I decide to take that route?

Question 2: what will come pouring out when I take that cover off?... oil?... blood?... sea monkeys?

Oh, the patent plate. You can find one on ebay for less than $10. Why Triumph stopped putting them on some bikes I have no clue. To me that's like a pair of Levi's without the little red tag on the pocket.

Ouch! That bike still looks like new!

I can't really tell you the best way to repaint it, but oil is going to come out when you take off that case, so you probably should drain the oil before doing so. Also, I'm not sure how many miles you've put on your bike so far, but you may want to consider putting on a new gasket when you replace it, they aren't that expensive, and it might help you out in the future.

will also warn you that it is a bit of a pain to get that cover off since it is your stator and it has a nice strong magnet holding it there.

Go the high temp paint route, regular paint may work ... but why take the chance. I think you would want a satin finish, that may be a little tricky to find (as opposed to the common flat black high temp paint). I'm gettng one of those patent plates ... nice touch.

It is. Bought new in March. And I wash it.

I feel you on the pain. I dropped my bike on the left side and scratched up my stator cover as well and it drives me absolutely crazy. I would go with a powdercoat though. That will definitely stand up to the heat and it should cost too much at all to get that small piece powder coated. If you do just make absolutely sure they don't get spray into the threaded mounting holes or you'll have a sheeeiiiiitty time getting that thing mounted back on.

The other option that you have is to install a new stator cover. The cover and gasket would cost you about 60-80$

Then you'd have a spare if you ever have a more serious drop too...

You can use an enamel like Rust-Oleum. Most engine paints are enamel. It will just bake on. On something like exhaust, it would just flake right off, but should be fine on the cover. The patent plate is a must for any Triumph!

I will second the warnong about the magnet. When you take the cover off it will be slippery from the oil leaking out, and if it slips out of your hand you will pinch your fingers!
