Hi guys,

I am new to the forum and it looks good! I am thinking about trading in my YZF600 Thundercat for a TT600, has anyone done this swap? Do you think it is a wise move!??! Also I am looking at a 2001 model with 15000 miles on it, what are the sort of things woth looking out for? I have read into something to do with software? Could anyone explain this please.

Thanks in advance.

There are a few things that go wrong, but not many. The speedo sensor will eventually fail. The bike will be fairly sensitive to whether the CO is set properly and the throttle bodies are synchronized properly. Those are completely fixable things. Fuel injection mapping isn't a big deal any more. It was bad at the very first, but you can put the official Triumph map for a 2001 or the map for a 2002 and later into it and it will run as well as any bike.

15K miles is nothing on one of these. If it has been abused, then stear clear, but they take a whole lot of abuse without complaint. If it has been dropped on the right side, you may find oil in the airbox. There are occasional problems with the breather- likewise very fixable.

No bike is without quirks, but the quirks you will get from a TT600 are not problems really. It isn't as powerful as a 2001 R6, for instance, but it handles as well or better, and it is more comfortable. I really enjoyed mine while I had it.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

i don't know whether you will notice much difference from the thundercat if you want a triumph then why not look at a daytona 955i
i loved my triumph but had enough of dealers charging a fortune to service and put things right so i've now got a fireblade :-D but my tt never went wrong it had the breather hose problem and leaked a bit of oil from the alternator loom and it ran pretty bad at low rpm's but that was more to do with the race can and k&n air filter
where are you U.S. OR U.K.??

Hi ,

I did exactly the same swap !

I,ve had 2 thundercats and thought they were excellent bikes for commuting .

Verdict , the TT600 doesn't have as much reserve when the fuel light comes on , as soon as it comes on try to find a petrol station it won't last the 30 + miles like the thundercat .

Also you,ll find you have to work the gears a lot more than the cat , the TT600 has an extra gear .

Brakes are 100% better than a cat and the cats were good .

Seat is as comfortable as the cat .

BUT the grin factor is amazing on the TT600 , all the bike mags says the TT600 is ugly and has ***** fuelling etc but i love the styling and haven't really noticed the fuelling problem .

Also the TT600 is the master of bends , you can flick it a lot easier into bends than a cat , it,s a hell of a lot lighter too .

Get a TT600 you won't look back !!!

I bought a mint condition TT600 2001 with 4k miles for £2700 .
