Hello,
My bike broke down last night, initial problem appears to be the conectors from the alternator into the wiring loom are now a melted mess (second time this has happened). Next problem, the alternator casing is full of oil, I am sure it should not be, can anyone confirm this? If the seal has gone between crankcase and alternator housing can this be changed from the alt casing side or not?

The alternator case is supposed to be full of oil. Did the service bulletin regarding wire gauge for the stator connection get done on your bike?

No it didnt get done as I have a complete mistrust of letting anyone working at a dealer ship touching my bike. I am planning to do it myself this weekend. Do you know what gauge of wire is recomended?

I don't remember- it was a very long time ago. If you go to the dealership, they will have the service bulletin information and will be able to get the wiring harness part. Assuming that they are halfway cooperative.

Not sure if you got this fixed yet but I have replaced 2 stators on my 01 TT. Got the last one rewound and installed on the 29th just a few days ago. I had a ground wire from my regulator connector going to about 4 inches to the next connector corroded and hard. Replaced that wire and about 3 inchs of wire in the loom after the connector to the stator on the loom side as it was no longer flexable. When the wires no longer flex or bend they are junk and should be cut off and repaired. Hope this helps I know a new stator is $400 I had mine rewound for $85 and happy with the work.

hey, any chance you can get some sort of info on where to get a stator rewound at? only 1 outa the 3 sections on my stator is bad, so it seems a little more logical to get it repaired instead of buying a new one.

The place i sent mine too was www.customrewind.com
he doesn't pay much attention to his website so it is easier to call him. It cost me like $5 to ship it (2lbs) and enclosed a check to him for $85 for the job. He shipped it back and i am very pleased. Just be sure to check ALL connections and wires. You can pull the harness off the bike very easy from the stator to the regulator. They shunt all extra voltage to ground that is not used. Pay EXTRA attention to the ground circuits. Hope this helps.
