Anyone have any advice as to how to adjust the throttle cable at the engine side? Took the tank partially off today to try and adjust it, but its right next to the frame and difficult to get and wrenches on it.. Any Ideas?

there is an inline cable adjuster in front of the headstock. Doesn't that take the slack out?

If not the tank comes off quite easily BUT please pinch the steel fuel pipe release catches before moving anything. The two pipes should then just fall away from the connectors. Then disconnect the electrics & off with the tank (Careful you don't lose the two rubber support bungs.

Cheers Jon

Hey Jon, thanks for your reply... The upper adjustment is at the limit... that's why I'm trying to adjust at the engine side.... Just can't see how to get a wrench in there easily...

Back when cables used to wear out there used to be a thingy called a "split ferrule", which took the excess slack out of cables. :

It was a split collar with two diameters (small one fits in the hole the cable goes into on the adjuster, large on fits round the end of the cable) . They used to take up about 6mm or ¼" of cable slack. I think you can still get them at off road bike shops. Or you could bodge one. :???:

It is not common nowadays for cable to develop excess slack - it used to happen when a nipple was sliding off as the solder failed! :???:

IMHO I would try to work out why this is happening. .Take the tank off & look everywhere to see why the cable outer is no longer long enough or the cable inner is stretching!!

Have fun & good luck Jon

Hey Jon not to be sarcastic... it has slack because it wasn't adjusted properly at the factory when assembled... the inline adjuster was at it's limit when I looked at it ... the factory did that they should have noticed it and made the adjustment down at the throttle body..there is an adjustment at the throttle body... that would easily fix the little bit of play I have... just trying to get to it is a problem... Thank you for your replies....

You have probably sorted this now, I hope it is fine now, but if not.....

I had the tank off mine yesterday. In case you haven't had time to get to it the throttle actuator wheel & cable adjuster is on the left hand side by the frame rale halfway along. The cable comes up to it from below.

If, as Will ponted out, you reach in from the left behind the starter, you can reach the pinch-clips that release the fuel pipes from the tank and also the electrical connector. Then if you lift the tank front & support it on some wood or plastic you haven't got to disturb the overflow pipe & tip-up valve at the back. Looks like there is enough room to adjust the cable then.

Cheers Jon
