Got a TT600 that is not charging, when I have charged the battery, I start it, with the engine running I disconnect the battery and it should keep running yeah?? it does not, it stops.

Any ideas on where to start looking???

I'm no expert but surely the battery has to be connected to run things like the engine management system...

I was thinking that the charging system would keep the engine management running.

Well hopefully someone will come along soon and let you know for sure... I don't think the bike will run without a battery though.

I'm fairly certain that it wouldn't run without a battery connected, especially at idle. If it had carbs and points it would probably stay running. You could use a voltage meter and measure voltage on the battery, and then start the bike and see if the voltage increases.

I highly doubt it, even some cars if you have a bad battery the alternator will not keep a high enough output to keep the systems running which inevitably kills the engine. Maybe if you kept the RPM fairly high the lighting coil system might work, but definately not at an idle.

Remember these bikes use a lighting coil system as opposed to a generator or alternator like in a car.

First point to look is a new battery...cheapest option and most likely culprit.

check the battery under load, you can do this with a load tester or using a voltage meter and cranking the bike with the ignition disconnected. the battery may appear fully charged at 12-13V but once you load it if it drops under about 6.5-6 its junk..

Other Motorcycle: anything I can get.
Bike may possibly run but do not think so, from experience the S4 will start on jump leads and tick over with a flat battery but will not rev it just cuts out, so going one step further I would expect it not to run without the battery conected. So to answer your question it should not run without the batt.

IME most modern (post 1965) road bikes will not run at tickover without the battery. The spikes in power output from the alternator upset the ignition system even with mechanical points doing the switching. The battery soaks up those spikes & fills in the troughs.

Also as Mark says the ECU likes a fairly stable power supply. When you subtract power drain of the injector pump there maybe nothing left to keep the ECU alive.

If you fitted a big capacitor, carburettors and a kickstart it should work.
