MY PROBLEM BEING THAT THE BOLT WILL NOT PINCH ENOUGH TO ELIMINATE ALL FREE PLAY. DO ALL OF OUR TT'S DO THIS OR IS IT PECULIAR TO MINE ALONE .

I don't really understand the question- does the lever have some slop on the shaft and come clear off periodically? If that is the case, then you have a unique problem. If you find a little slack in the gearchange mechanism and a little drivetrain slack, then it is normal. The transmission is the one thing that I would like improved on my bike.

If your lever is loose when the pinch bolt is tight, try running a hacksaw down the gap the pinch bolt closes up with the lever pinched together. Usually this is caused by someone riding the bike with the shifter loose. When the shifter can move around it really gets loose in a hurry.
This goes back to my $200 dirtbike days. Anybody else have his problem with their 600?
Jeff

I remember this problem with worn out jap bikes, the trick was to insert a sewing needle between the splines and the lever.
