Took the wife out for the maiden voyage on the 675 today. Beautiful weather today in South Central Indiana. We took our favorite local loop...
It ends up being about 90 miles with a stop in the middle at a quaint little inn called The Story Inn. My wife immediately noted that she sits up higher above my head than on the '01 Speed Triple I used to have which affords her a better view of the road ahead.
Even though I installed the gel pillion seat, she mentioned that it was not as comfortable as the Corbin Pillion I had on the Speed Triple. She said she was not uncomfortable, just not "as" comfortable as on the Speed Triple.
This route is filled with lots of turns, so it gave me a great opportunity to discover how well the bike would handle with a pillion on board. I must say that I was quite surprised. The bike handled great and everything was very predictable. I have not adjusted the suspension settings off the stock setup yet and that seemed to work fine. I'm sure with a little extra preload it would have been even better.
I didn't push it really hard, but I was still being fairly aggressive and everything just happened like I had hoped. Turn-in is still quick and lean angle is easily controllable. It also helps that my wife grew up riding behind her dad and never fights what I'm doing on the bike. She is a fabulous passenger, so I'm sure that colors my impression over what it would be with an inexperienced pillion.
It certainly isn't a bike we would take on vacation as a couple, but for a day ride it works just fine. I'm sure we could do a 300 mile day with a couple of short breaks thrown in.
The more I ride this bike, the more impressed I am!
