At what temperature should the radiator on my TT600 kick in? What's a normal operating temp? Blasting down the highway (at 64 mph, of course) it settles in at around 190*, but if I get stuck in traffic, I'm up to 212* when the radiator kicks in and then up to as high as 224*. And it isn't even summer yet. Is this normal?

Cheers,
john

Yep, perfectly normal! It sounds a little on the warm side on the freeway, but it is also a lot cooler in Seattle than in St. Louis! It will get very hot in traffic when it is near freezing out. Don't worry as long as the fan brings the temperature back down.

John,
I was worried about my TT too when the summer temps came on, but after awhile got kinda used to it. I typically run around 177-188 on the open roads around here with highs hitting 207-209 on long winding uphill twisties where I can't get enough airflow across the radiator. In traffic around town the fan typically cuts in at around 2-18-220 and brings it down nicely until I can get really moving. I've been messing around with a gadget on the bike called a Techlusion (pretty much the same as the Power Commander but more stone age) and depending on the "mix" that I'm sending to the fuel injectors it runs either cooler or hotter. I'm toying around with getting the TuneBoy software (see threads) to get more out of the machine, but I gotta wait until I can print more money :-D
cheers,
Mark

If it runs hotter, you leaned it out. If it runs cooler, you have a richer mixture. Gasoline also works as a coolant as it goes into your engine. That is a little counterintuitive, but temperature is a good way to monitor what your engine is doing. The codes I have in my bike are a little too rich, so the bike runs quite a bit cooler than it normally would.
