The manual says only the dealer can do it, and has to dissasemble unit to do it. Anyone tried it themselves? If so, drop some knowledge on me so I can do it! :-D

I will be doing it Thursday evening for a track day Friday. There are a couple of collars in there. One does the adjustment, the other locks it in place. I don't plan to take the rear wheel off the bike to do it, but I do have the chainguard off. Mostly because it broke, but getting it out of the way gives more room to work, too. If I still have fingers on Saturday, I will let you know!

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

Thanks Will.

I would be interested in adjusting this as well - I weigh a couple of big macs more than the average 150lb rider that these things are usually adjusted for @ the factory.

adjusting the preload is pretty easy on the Speed4, as there isn't any bodywork in the way. It goes like this; you'll be working from the left hand side, as the shock resevoir is in the way from the right. Gather; hammer(heavier the better), long, broad blade style screwdriver(long punch is nice)eye protection( from possible flying bits of screwdriver handle) and some silicone spray lube(WD40 in a pinch but there are so many better lubes available). Give a little shot of spray lube, aiming for the space where the spring meets the threaded collar. This will greatly reduce the friction between the collar and spring itself making the job a lot easier. With your srewdriver/punch, tap the top(locking) collar anti-clockwise a turn or so, leaving the adjusting collar free. You'll tap the adjusting collar clockwise to increase pre-load. Be careful to get the best purchase between the collar notch and screwdriver so as not to damage the notch. Try one full turn of the adjusting collar for a noticeable difference. Tap the locking collar down tight and enjoy your mechanical independance from the horribly overpriced dealer!
