well, I cant trace it, but I smell coolant burning after riding, or at a stoplight, and there is a very small loss of fluid over time. Any thoughts?

a lot of S4 & TT600 (including mine) seem to lose a bit of fluid. sometimes it is overflow sometimes it just disappears. Hopefully yours is just leaking onto the pipes or the hot front of the engine.
Check for white or coloured marks around the hose joints where the water has evaporated. tighten up all the clips anyway as a precaution (not too tight you can strip the clips, but then you can get replacements for the common sizes from car spares shops)
Good luck Jon

thanks for the tips lc. I just found the area of the leak, but not the exact source. while cleaning the s4 I found coolant on the right hand side passenger footpeg bracket. I traced the drip up, into the rear bodywork to the overflow tank. A small puddle had formed on the inside of the bodywork, and was dripping down the passenger peg, and onto the can. This is the burning coolant smell I have been noticing. I left the seat of and ran the motor for a while, but couldnt make it leak more. Will have the dealer look at it unless anyone has more advice. Is there a faulty connection on the hoses to the overflow tank? How many hoses are there, I only see two.

There are a whole bunch of drain hoses that poke out of my bike- airbox, gas tank vent, coolant overflow.
My bike burps up some coolant every so often when it gets really hot. It seems to be a random thing, except that it is always when it gets really hot for a while. Then it spits up as it cools. I don't know why. The overflow tank says it is below minimum when cool, but it is fine when it is hot. There is no problem in the radiator itself, so I don't worry about it much.

Getting closer! I traced the leak to the overflow tank. The dribble starts at the top of the tank at the cap! It looks like coolant is forced out of the overflow tank, out of the cap, and down the bodywork onto the exhaust can. Isnt the cap supposed to hold the fluid in, and let it drain out of a tube or something. Perhaps a vent line is clogged. Is is it a closed loop, and the cap is the vent? Seems wrong.

It has an overflow tube. That is how any excess is supposed to drain off. The cap isn't the drain! Your overflow drain must be blocked.

thats what I thought, but Is the top or bottom tube the overflow tube? Im not sure, but I think that both tubes are to or from the radiator. Not sure if there is an overflow tube. Can you verify which one is the overflow tube?

Where is the bottle on an S4? It is in the bodywork, near the left front on my bike. I think another S4 owner is going to have to answer that question.

Will,, the bottle on the S4 is under the right side rear bodywork. It sits just under the right hand seat. I am thinking that maybe I have an air bubble in the system. Is there a hose that will actually drain coolant to the ground beneath your TT? I thought all the hoses went back to the radiator. Thanks for being the wealth of information that keeps this forum cooking!
