Twice now my new speed four has failed to want to start up. It just turns over but no fire. It appears the kick stand no start switch is fouling me. Both times I ended up pushing the switch open and closed with a pocket knife to get the bike to fire. Once I'm done fiddling with it the bike fires right up. Doesn't matter what gear I'm and the kick stand is always up. Anybody ever had any problem with these? It's still under warrenty but I was toying with the idea of disabling the switch anyway... never needed one before.

you could disconnect it as part of the troubleshooting process. I would suggest giving it (the piston that retracts into the switch body) a good shot of WD-40 or silicone spray; work the switch a few times and see if it still hangs you up. It's a good safety item, however; you wouldn't be anywhere near the first guy to crash after riding off with the side-stand down.

i like the thing to be honest, makes it easy to shut down when i stop, but you do look like an ass when you pop it down in 1st to take off and the bike dies...doh!

You look a lot dumber when you do manage to take off with the kick stand down. The first left is always a disaster. Not that I have ever done that... :thump:

that's just such a bad idea, ha, cause it'll happen someday, and i'd much rather the bike cut out than lose it in a turn, just like i did need something to remind me to take the lock off my front wheel before i tried to pull out of the parking spot, like 4 times

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to wait and see if it does it again and play around with the switch some more to see for sure if that is it. I might bypass it temporarily as a troubleshooting tool but I'll keep it on there since it's part of the bike and I can make them fix it for free.

Yeah, the day after I removed it I'd be that guy rolling down the road with the stand down... and everyone following me waiting for that left hand turn... :-D

And you're sure you didn't pull the gas lever when starting? Thus flooding it?

After twitching with the connection things had time to settle down and then it ran?

I thought of that the first time it happened to me. So the second time I made sure I just hit the starter with no throttle at all. Still no joy. Of course, now it hasn't happened again. Maybe it was just a fluke. The bike hasn't seen the 600 mi breakin yet so perhaps it was just one of those little bugs to work out. If it happens again I'll call the dealer.
