Should oil come out from under the alternator cover? dumped the bike and grinded down the alternator side cover, oil started pouring out. Is that part of the oil system or did a passage get grinded down?

Sounds like you might have cracked the cover or messed up the gasket. I did this last year when i droped the bike on that side. It is a known issue that the cover on that side is about as strong as an eggshell

I managed to destroy at least two of those on my yellow TT600. One got smashed when I was knocked down on the freeway- oil everywhere. The second one got ground down pretty well in a track day lowside. It was oozing oil, and I did a temporary fix with JB Weld. So, yes, there is oil behind that cover. If you dropped your bike on it, you probably damaged it.

Dropped bike on that side, and I did damage the cover. I wasn't sure if the alternator was dry or wet. I havn't got around to taking it off yet.

Do you have to drain the oil before removing the alternator cover? I can't imagine there is very much oil in there but just wondering?
