sorry all, there was some discussion of this recently but i can't track it down...i have a LOT of vapor from the bike when its a bit wet/cold(under 40f)...i'm taking the bike in to remap to a new can i bought and thought if anyone had info they could look at this issue while i'm there (since the dealer is a ferry ride and 30 miles for me...). Lemme know! TIA.

Mileage? Is it just when the air outside is cold and damp, and/or the engine is just warming up? I don't see how that is a problem, unless it is smoking all the time.

conditions:
wet or damp/under 40-45 or so degrees: thing is like a fog machine, pretty embarrassing (especially surrounded by other winter ferry bikers) but burns off once on the road and engine temp is around 150f.

I talked to cyclebarn about it and tech said it was the stock can collecting moisture...but then i heard something about a problem with the crankcase breather oil & the airbox--in any event, i need to get my new can tuned today, i'll let you know what they come up with.

If the vapour is very white it could be oil. Put your glove in the smoke and smell it does it smell oily?

It can collect in the airfilter box and gives heavy white smoke when the engine is cold/tepid. This happens when the breather pumps oil to the airbox it also shows as an oil-leak from the left engine side [where it has dripped from the airbox!].

The best way to check for this is to remove the tank and airfilter look in the back of the airbox. An easier way of (almost) checking is pulling the breather pipe from the right crankcase to the airbox to see if it is oily, if you pinch the clip with pliers it comes off & goes on easily.

I hope it is just condensation

Jon

That sounds like the cause. Mine does that on cold mornings until it is warmed up.

Yep, same here- white vapor/ smoke until it's warmed up. For whatever reason, it seems to have more vapor than most other bikes. My wife's SV hardly has any.

c'est la vie!
