don't forget that if you have a camera mounted to your tank and you get a bit frisky on the road, if you get pulled by the cops they may be very interested in the film, be warned, some lads in the peak district cut up a copper and he was just going to give them a warning until he saw the video on the bike, it contained film of them going 140 mph, knees down ,wheelies etc and they used the film as evidence in court against them!!

I tried mounting my Sony MiniDV cam to the bike, but the vibration upset the tape transport so there was lots of hash in the video.

I wound up getting a so-called helmet cam from these guys
http://www.helmetcamera.com/
and mounted their little remote cam to the bike with the velcro strips they supplied. Their remote cam plugs into my Sony DV and it works like a charm. I put the DV into a padded bag on the rear seat.

One problem is that wind noise will kill the mic audio recording. I put some foam over the mike and mounted it at the rear of the seat to pick up the exhaust note. That worked fine.

I was thinking about getting a helmet cam...but my camcorder is ONE of the few with out the AV input needed for the helmet cam....sucks...

I did get a tech bar mount for my Monster but because of the windscreen, I needed the long arm....too much vibration....used the short arm on the SV and it did great.

The Helmet Cam video wasn't up to the quality of the Sony MiniDV. So, I went so far as to mount the Sony cam directly to my helmet with Velcro strips. I didn't realize how much the head bobs around when riding and although it solved the problem of vibration induced hash in the video, the constant frame movement made me seasick when I watched it.

The Helmet Cam is pretty wide angle and you don't notice camera movement so much. It also solves the problem of having to focus, and of course there's no zoom. To be honest, I thought the Helmet Cam was a little expensive for what I got out of it, and after a couple of rides it got kinda boring. I don't use it anymore. It was an interesting, but expensive experiment.
