I have a new d650 with around 600 miles on it. I've noticed it seems to have a valve tick (same sound you would hear from sticky lifters on a car). I called the Triumph dealership and they said this is a normal sound from the throttle body/induction. Not knowing what in the throttle body/induction can make this noise I'm wondering if other D650 owners hear the same thing.

The gearbox also seems to be extremely clunky. again it might be my paranoia but I read in the August 05' Sport Bike that their clunky d650 soon grenaded the tranny. Just wondering if this is normal to the d650 (and I'm just very paranoid) or if I need to take her in.

Thanks

The fuel injectors can make a ticking noise. This is probably what they are talking about, and it is normal. My S4 trans was notchy, but smoothed out nicely once the bike had some miles on it. As for the magazine test bike, they lead a very hard life to say the least. It can't hurt to take the bike in since it is under warranty, but my guess is that everything is OK.

Nothing to worry about on either count. As someone has said already the 'ticking' is normal and nothing to worry about. I have a D600 and initially found it *very* hard to engage neutral, to the point where at home I would turn the engine off then snick it in. The gearbox soon loosens up and will be fine. From the beginnings that I've described mine has done 12K, including 2 lengthy track days, without any issues.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I was starting to worry about her.
