No, but I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you keep it clean, it is fine.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

I'm running Repsol's 10w50 racing 4T full synthetic. I had been a religious user of Triumph's Mobil 1, but once the alternative Repsol 4T was available in the U.S., I was all over it. Triumph=$47 Repsol=$32. Yes, it's still pricey, but I now get three oil changes out of my nearly $100 instead of two!

Or you could go with Shell Rotella T synthetic: $15 / gallon and Wally World

Bio-diesel? Not sure what your point is. I can say that a lot of people are using the Rotella T Synthetic in motorcycles these days. I'm on my first oil change with it and so far so good; the bike shifts as well as it ever did with the Mobil 1 red cap.

Just kidding my good friends on the left coast, next time I'll throw in a smiley face or two. :-D :-D

I know it's old news to many, but I...just-can't-bring-myself... to use oil intended for a low-rev diesel in a high-revving gas engine. Call me old fashioned, or better yet, show me an oil analysis.

"Motorcycle gasoline engines may not seem in the same league as the big displacement diesel engine under your hood, but they share some of the same lubrication requirements. So yes, in many cases, a premium heavy-duty universal oil capable of serving both diesel and gasoline engines is the best choice for your bike."

Of course, this is Shell marketing material so maybe it's not the most trustworthy source. Still, I think if Shell felt there was a problem they wouldn't make these claims due to liability concerns.

More importantly to me, there are a lot of other riders out there now with tens of thousands of miles on Rotella synthetic and no reported problems.

How many people here have actually ever had an oil-related failure on a motorcycle? Generally speaking oil-related failure shouldn't occur before 100k miles on a modern engine, and most of our bikes are never going to see that kind of mileage.

I say just use something that won't damage your wet clutch and change it regularly. Beyond that it's probably not terribly important what you use.

Keithu, thanks for the info. I don't doubt that what Shell says is correct within the parameters that they have stated. Good luck with it. :chug:
