So... is it normal for the S4's cooling fan to stay on for several minutes after the ignition has been shut off? If so, is there a way to disable it? I find it very annoying. Whenever I park the bike I at first get admiring looks, but then they turn into looks of puzzlement as I shut of the bike and walk away with the fan still whining.

Normal if you've been stuck in traffic and the engine is hot. If you're able to maintain speed and the engine is getting hot, something is amiss.

Higher temperatures are normal. Depending on weather, mine runs at temperaturs from 60C (really cold, nasty weather and constant speeds) to around 108C or more (100 degrees F track day). If I get stuck in traffic, the fan kicks in at 104C and turns itself back off at 98C. Different tune maps have slightly different fan settings, but they are all right around there.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

All the Triumph fours run hotter than the Jap bikes...

You don't want to disable the fan... Even after shutdown. Reason is that due to the water flow being turned off there's a lot of soakback into the engine. The engine will actually get hotter right after shutdown as their is no water to cooloff the hot parts and as such the residual heat radiates throughout the engine. Just let it run... Our Volvo S60 turbo does the same thing if I "clear the carbon out". Of course that explains why my milage is ~2mph less than her.
