Why are my headlights draining my battery

Could this be a relay or something. When they are unplugged the battery fina at tickover but when I plug them back in it drains the battery quite fast at tickover. If its revving its fine.

I know people have said dodgy R/R but I have tried a couple of them now and its the same.

You have a generating system failure - if not the R/R, probably the stator.

Simplest test for stator - unplug it and leave ignition/engine off.
Measure resistance from any of the three pins to any engine ground point:
if short, your stator is toast.

Condition of your battery?

Not the volts, but the CCA. New they are in the 180 ball park. It can show 12+ volts but with no amps behind it, it won't do anything and the lights will drain the battery very quickly.

Definitely a generating system problem.
