Having a slight issue... every once and a while I will be in neutral but the light will not be on, its not a big problem because i can tell its neutral, but figure id ask to see if there is an easy fix or a bigger problem coming. so 03 speed 4, neutral light works most of the time, but occasionally when in neutral light will not be on... any ideas?

Road speed sensor. Check for computer codes p 1500, this sensor reads the transmission status of neutral I believe

Wow! Unbelievably bizarre answer!
1) The neutral switch is what controls the neutral light
2) Road Speed Sensor cannot possibly determine Neutral, only speed and odometer.
3) The Road Speed Sensor is not even connected to the ECM, so there is no associated error code, even if there was a fault with it.

Most likely the neutral switch itself (although could be connectivity issue) - the switch is located down by the gear shift lever.
One thing you might notice is that, regardless of whether transmission itself is actually in neutral, if that switch is not made (and therefor light is not on), bike will not start unless the side-stand is up!

hmm i want to say mine starts with the kickstand down?

I would check then the side stand switch, maybe the plug has become lose or it has a build up on it causing it to stick in/on. There are a lot on ebay used if you need to replace it

You said light was intermittent:
- if it is on when you go to start, then it will indeed start with stand up or down.
- if it is out when you start - and it does start with the stand down and light out, then that says that ECM is still seeing the neutral switch and the problem is the connection to the indicator lamp.

Not impossible, but unlikely coincidence that both the neutral switch AND the side-stand switch would have to be bad at the same time for that scenario

Ok, so a quick check of the manual shows its in the tranmission case... anyone have a walkthrough on replacing it ( or is it not worth it to )
