So, hypothetically speaking of course, say someone was installing a new gascap...and whilst installing it they left the cap open...and whilst screwing in one of the bolts it kinda, sorta, well...fell into the tank. Is there a screen in there to prevent it going into the fuel system? Is there anyway to get it out short of removing the tank and shaking it up and down?

Not sure on the bolt size but I doubt it will go into your fuel system. The hoses and outlets are very small. It may try and get out the line due to vacuum I guess. But save yourself some grief and worry and get one of these at your local auto parts store:

Definitely remove it ASAP. The bolt could get temporarily sucked up in the pump intake across the inlet from the pressure. That would not be good mid-corner at full lean.

I have a screwdriver with led's and a telescoping magnet... It was a "free" gift with the purchase of a flood light that never worked..... That screwdriver has saved me more money than I paid for the package several times over...
