left hand side stator cover/generator cover has had oil coming off it for a while so took the fairing off and there was oil leaking from where the wires go into the cover

so i covered it in silicone sealent to try and plug the leak as that is what a triumph guy said they do with this problem so next big ride i will see if it works

That's the exact same point my 650 started leaking from. The rubber grommet had become unseated so they reseated it and it was fine, they ordered a new one and fitted it anyway to be sure. I believe you have to take the cover off to re seat it though so that would mean draining all the oil.

That is not a completely uncommon problem. The grommet is the sure fire way to solve it. I have heard of a few failed attempts to solve the problem with gobs of sealant.

i have been told that the grommet is part of the wiring loom and that u have to replace that as well

Is it true that the wiring loom has to be replaced along with the grommet? I had a slight leak that I thought was coming from the gasket around the generator cover as the oil drip pooled up at the bottom. I replaced the gasket & I guess the problem was coming from the rubber grommet. I think I mangled it more replacing the gasket because after getting of the highway this morning on the way to work there was oil all over the generator cover & shift lever that seemed to be coming out of the rubber seal. I am going to go home and look at the micro fische and I hope that answers my question, but if anyone can answer this now it would help me with peace of mind for the rest of the day

Thanks,
Zane
