Does anyone have an extra S4 passenger grabrail they'd want to sell? If not, do you guys know of anything available through aftermarket? Triumph's is pretty pricey...

Renntec makes grab rails and luggage racks for the TT600/Speed Four:

Here's the luggage rack:

Ventura also makes a rack system for the TT/S4. With the Ventura system you can interchange between a rack or grab rail:

Or you could do as I did and make your own rack:

I built my rack to hold an aux. fuel cell:

Does anyone here use the Renntec, and if so, what luggage is recommended?

Keithu,

How much extra fuel does your unit hold? I'd like to carry an extra can, but don't want to go to the trouble of interfacing it with the fuel system. Can you recommend a simple container that would mount to the Renntec? Would it be recommended to weld extra attachment points to it?

My aux. fuel tank holds about 3 gallons. I ordered it through www.summitracing.com. It's designed for mini-drag racers I think.

If you just want to be able to carry a little extra fuel sometimes (like, on tour) then a system like mine is probably overkill. You'd probably be better off just strapping a 2 gallon gas can onto the luggage rack or passenger seat.

Keep in mind that fuel is heavy - ~6 lbs. per gallon - and that weight can put a lot of stress on a luggage rack. I broke my first luggage rack design and had to come up with the much more robust rack you see in my pictures. When that weight sits out there like that it will vibrate, and if the rack isn't adequately braces the vibration will break it eventually. The Ventura rack, for example, probably would not be good for carrying fuel. I also remember reading about people who broke the Triumph factory accessory luggage rack under the weight of a GIVI trunk, which is why I did not bother buying the OEM unit.

I really don't know anything about the Renntec rack except what I can see in the pictures. Whether it would support 20+ lbs, I don't know.

For lots of pictures and articles about the racks I built, as well as how I plumbed-in the aux. fuel supply, visit:

http://www.theunderdahls.com/fuelcell.php

There you can see my initial design which failed, and the changes I incorporated into the second improved design. I have about 10k miles on the new rack now and it appears to be a sound design. I have actually thought about moving up to a 4 gallon fuel tank, but I'm concerned about what leverage might do to the OEM subframe. I think I'm already well beyond what Triumph's engineers had in mind for this bike

keithu,

Thanks for all the good information.
I like the idea of strapping on a 2 gal can. To me, the Renntec looks beefy enough to take it. That extra fuel would be just about right for touring around Death Valley. I did that a couple of years ago on my ST and with even that large tank, it felt a little risky on the long open stretches.
I had the Ventura rack on my Bonne which worked fine with light luggage, but I agree it wouldn't do for a heavy fuel can.

If I wasn't in Afghanistan right now, I'd sell you the rail off my bike, but I don't think I can talk my buddy into pulling it off for me. If you want, I'll see if he's willing to.

Seems like the subframe should be able to hold 3 to 4 gallons? I mean, a pillion rider weighs 100 to 135 or more, but I'm no engineer.
