I took my TT600 out today as it's the first warm day in awhile. I hadn't ridden in about 2 months. It started kind of sluggish as expected. I took it for a rip, washed it, and the next time I started it it started right up, as if the battery had chared during my ride. I then went on a couple hour ride and at one point, my instrument panel went dead. I stopped the bike at my local bike shop, and when I went to start it, it did not even turn over. He gave me a boost and the bike fired right up. As I drove home, I found that if I kept the revs high, I had no problems, but if I let it idle, the instrument panel would go blank again and when I got home and let it idle for a minute, it stalled. Is this a battery that's gone kaput? Or could it be that my bike is discharging severly?

Could be you've got a short somewhere near the fuses - poss rodent damage - I know I had some of the loom nibbled by mice on a bike I had laid up in the garage.

It could be a duff battery - see if your local shop will lend you a charged one or test yours for you. Look for 12-12.5v static, down to maybe 10-10.5v starting and up to 14.5v running/charging.

Thanks, I'm taking my battery in for a charge and load test tomorrow. I'm just praying it's the battery and not expensive electrical issues!

Check to see if the battery is connected tightly. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but if the battery connections are loose, it can do some of the things you describe.

What Will said.

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. I was going to take the battery out, but decided just to tighten the lugs for a quick test. That solved the problem.

Always a good check - if you are still experiencing problems get hold of a meter and also check your VR (the thing that regulates voltage out of the alternator).

Thanks for the great advice - Now that you mention it, when I pulled the battery last night, I did notice that the positive terminal was not fully tightened- When I get the battery back from my dealer I will try that again and hope for the best- but it sounds like this has happened before.

TT600NUT Most bikes have spring-washers (anti-shake washers) under hte battery bolts. My Speed Four didn't. I suffered a battery failure like yours once before I fitted the spring washers, not since. If they are not fitted on yours I would recommend fitting them
