Dropped the bike in the driveway (doh) and bent the front brake lever. It's rideable, but now the lever curves out pretty severely at the tip and it has a lot of vertical free play about the bolt. My dealer said a new Triumph lever would be about $50. Does anyone know if there's a cheaper alternative I could install myself? I also thought about removing it and trying to hammer it back into shape...

I have a spare clutch lever and brake lever that I always carry with me. They cost me $39 and $59 respectively at the Triumph dealer. Today we had a wrench night, and I had a chance to compare the levers to those on a Honda VFR, CBR600 F4i, Ducati S4, Ducati Monster 900, Buell CityX, Aprilia Tuono, Suzuki Bandit 1200, and Yamaha YZF-600R.

The clutch and brake levers matched closely to those on a '98 Yamaha YZF-600. I wasn't able to pull the levers off the Yamaha, but they are very similar if not identical. Apparently the YZF-600 was unchanged from 1997-2001.

Another rumor is that Kawasaki levers are interchangeable with our Speed Four levers. Try levers from the previous generation ZX-6. The next bike night we have, I'll try to compare to more bikes.

If you find that the Yamaha or Kawasaki levers fit, please post the part number and price so we can all benefit from this knowledge. I'll add it to my chart.

and the chart I'm working on is at

http://www.speedfour.org/maintenance/S4_parts.html

Apparently there are serious electricity problems in Los Angeles that have taken the site offline for now.

BTW I posted this at speedfour.org as well (speedfour.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=85), and I will update this thread and xtalman's chart with what I find out.

I got an aftermarket Kawasaki lever off eBay ($21 shipped) and it's a perfect match. Advertised for "Kawasaki ZX6, ZX7, ZX9 1993-1999 & ZRX all years". I couldn't find an actual Kawasaki part number for it though.

It appears to be a common Nissin lever that's used on a number of Japanese bikes. You should be OK with any lever that looks just like the one from the S4. There's no other lever I've come across that looks much like it. There's one other type of adjustable lever used on some newer bikes, but it looks fairly distinct from ours.
