i'm thinking about buying a micron exhaust for my s4 and i just got a question for those who have it...how much weight decrease and power increase can i expect? also, how is the ease of installation and is a power commander installment required? another thing, does the micron exhaust sound better than stock? thanks in advance

I don't know for sure about either of these, but the stock can is pretty heavy. I would guess that you could loose up to five pounds by putting on a ligher one. You probably won't get more power without a Power Commander or TuneEdit. You might even see a power loss. The sound of an uncorked Triumph four is great. It sounds like it is a whole lot bigger than a 600.

"Uncorking" would involve an aftermarket air filter like a K&N, and an aftermarket pipe to let the bike inhale and exhale better.

I have a micron on my '05 S4. I bought the bike from the dealer with it already on. It's polished aluminum, oval. I'd have to check the model number, but in the assembly instructions it was marked as off road only.

I have the stock can, and I can tell you that it is very heavy. I'm guessing there is probably a 5-10 lb difference.

As for noise, the micron pipe is LOUD at wide open throttle. Very throaty sounding. I've got many compliments on the sound of the bike. During city riding it's not that loud. Just sounds healthy. Not annoying or buzzy. In general, the micron piped S4 sounds way different than most other piped 600's. I recommend it.

As for the ECU, the dealer loaded the program for a tt600 and a micron pipe, and it works flawlessly. No hesitation, no flatspots. It just pulls at any RPM. Stock air filter.

I hope to take it to one of the local dealers and get it on their dyno, just to confirm that the A/F ratio is indeed correct. Seat of the pants testing is one thing, but the dyno doesn't lie.

Brett, you don't have a powercommander do you? Am I right in understanding that your dealer loaded a Triumph tune code for tt600/micron rather than anything to do with a PC.

I have a Powercommander III with a micron oval titanium slip on and have fiddled with some PC maps, but still have the 2500-3000 surge. The top end seems much better, though I have a K&N air filter too & it sounds great, but I'd still like to clean it up down in the rev range.

There is a PC III map for a TT600/Micron combo, but I haven't tried it because I wasn't sure how it would work with the different cam in the S4.

Thanks,
Zane

Correct, I have the triumph dealer tt600/micron code in my bike. I have no surging of any sorts. I can dog the engine down to 2000 rpm under load without any problem. It runs great.

The dealer did tell me that they couldn't get it to work with a K&N though on other bikes.

However, as I said, I still want to get it to a dyno to make sure it is correct. Hopefully before the end of the year.

I've thought of having a dealer load the TT600 off road tune on mine to see how it works...and whether it helps the low speed surging.

Would be interesting to know exactly what map s4rider had loaded -- I know there is at least one TT600 "off-road" tune, maybe more than one.

Thanks Brett, I will ask about that next time I go in for service. By the way for anyone else... Using a highly accurate bathroom scale, the titanium Micron oval slip on was somewhere around 7 lbs lighter than the stock can.

This Forum is always a godsend. Every time I think of a question some one asks before me and its always all cleared up. I will take the weight difference serisously if the bathroom scale is indeed "Highly Accurate"
