My S4 appears to need a 17mm Allen (hex) wrench in order to remove the front axle, so I can pull the front wheel...the shop manual says nothing about it as a special tool, & I don't have that wrench.

In many years of wrenching I've never needed a 17mm Allen before. Is this readily available at major auto parts stores, or is this something unique to Triumph?

It can be a real PITA to find one. Look on ebay or a tool house. Sears doesn't have one, and none of the auto parts had one. It is the same size as the oil drain plug for a whole lot of German cars, including BMW and air cooled VWs, but that didn't make it any easier for me to find. It was cheap once I finally dug one up.

I had no problem getting one at the local Sears for less than 10 bucks. However it was the last one they had. Good luck.

tool'17mm hex 'drain plug tool'

$8.99

Cut off with dremel, put in 17mm socket on torque wrench, that's what I did.

OK, thanks all.
I found what I needed at the local AutoZone, OEM Industrial 1/2" drive metric hex bit set, package includes 12, 14 & 17mm bits, $7.99 + tax. What a deal.
