hello again got fed up with my 2001 tt600 dripping oil so i've took off the fairing to see where its coming from

oil leak no1 looks like its coming from the top of the generator cover it was covered in a kind of thick grease like vasaline with run marks coming down the casing?? any ideas

oil leak no2 is coming from one of the tubes from the airbox so i took off the tank and looked in the airbox it wasnt swimming in oil but there was about a thimbleful of oil in there what going on is an easy fix or is it a dealer job??

also will riding the bike with these leaks cause any damage ?

please help ,i've only had my tt a week it a great bike and i love riding it

My 02 Speed Four is also leaving a slight trail of oil down the generator cover on the left side. It comes from the top where two wires go down into the cover. After several rides there will be a drip from the bottom of the cover where it all collects. I think its just engine oil though, will be inspecting further.

There was a previous thread about this, though I can't seem to find it now. Apparently the seal where the wires go through the cover consists of a grommet and RTV; a poor RTV job at the factory seemed to be the cause of the leak.

I believe all these leaks are coming from the airbox. I heard somewhere that the crankcase breather can be faulty allowing exces oil blowby. Mine has the same problem but I haven't bother to fix it yet.

The crankcase breather (right crankshaft end cover) relies on a metal sleeve or collar rotating in an oilseal.

If the seal is torn or the sleeve is worn (a poem!! :-D ) the engine can pump oil past the breather into the airbox. As you lean the bike onto the sidestand almost all the oil drains out through the air-bleed pipes onto the left chrankcase cover leaving about a thimble full behind.

You can check this by disconnecting the breather pipe as it leaves the engine. I got the shop to repair mine under guarantee and they took half an hour But someone on this site has done it themselves.

Good luck Jon G
