How do you check oil level, dipstick screwed in, or just resting on top of threads? And should the bike be on the side stand, kick stand, or rear stand?

Love the bike, only has 3000 miles and just needs some TLC and two pieces of plastic, she runs like a top as is for $3000.

I put about 20 miles on her (plate swaped from my SV, salvage title, shhhhh!!), then drained what looked like basically fresh oil from the crash victim's last service, and replenished with a Purolator Pure One 14610 and 5w-40 rotella t synthetic as with all my bikes.

Anxiously awaiting the printing / photographing of the Owners Manual over at speedfour.org, doesn't look like he's done much since late June though.

I beleive you check it with the bike level, dipstick screwed all the way it. Did you check underneath the seat for the owners manual?

Check with the bike level upright and screw the dipstick all the way in. If you just ran the bike, let the oil settle for about ten minutes. 15W-50 Mobil 1 synthetic is what is called for, so I wonder if the 5W-40 might be a bit thin. And, welcome to the club!

Thanks guys!

Above I said I used Rotella T Synth in "all my bikes". That is not true, the KDX sure wouldn't have any use for it!

The S4 calls for 15W-50, huh? What is the drain interval listed at? I'm assuming it's beyond 3000 miles since they spec a synthetic oil.

I guess I should drain it out after a couple short easy rides, and consider it a oil 'flush' and switch over to the proper viscosity!

Also, I checked under the seat, no manual or toolkit. I'm in the US, any ideas on where to online order a owners and service manual?

The reason you find yourself sitting on your nuts is that they're overly large.

Yeah, sorry, I'm trying to finish my dissertation and moving at the same time. I just got the gallery up in a semi-usable state and that's where I intended to put the scans of the owners manual.

Hey, that's you mate!? Good looking site, I'd like to get around to a database driven setup for my dodgy little personal site jf.com, still using just the basic functions of Dreamweaver 4.

Sounds like you are busy with schooling and moving, probably a bit stressed and don't need some wanker on a message board sayin' cmon wrap that***** up, gimme my manual... :hammer:

Will be off waiting patiently!

It's okay, I tend to do stuff in spurts. Was there anything in particular you wanted scanned in? I've got the tech specs and maintenance schedules in HTML form up already. I can do a few pages here and there.

Right now my host seems to be having some MySQL problems but when they get sorted out I'll start putting up scans.

Yea, I'd really like what knobs do what on suspension, brake fluid info DOTxx, oil drain plug torque, oil and coolant capacities and types, clutch free play, chain slack, mileage / gallons remaining when fuel light comes on, valve adjustment specs, or any other specifics that will help me get my S4 tuned up.

Thanks!
